Yellow Mellow

Happy Wednesday!!  Today is an exciting day.  We are meeting with a real estate agent for the first time to discuss looking for and purchasing our first home.  She comes highly recommended by S-I-L Aaren and her S-I-L Jen.  We can't wait to get started on the hunt!  I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

I know I was a little negative about the month of February yesterday.  Today, I changed my attitude.  I woke up, felt rested and had a great workout (my arms hurt!).  I wanted to share my sunny mood with you all so enjoy these images.  I think many of them are a great wayto lift the winter blues out of your home.  Have a great day!

Candice Olson

Some people look forward to February because it's the shortest month of the year, we celebrate Valentine's Day and it's a popular month to go-away on a hot vacation.  I'm not such a bit fan of February simply because it tends to be the coldest month in Ontario and it's just another reminder that we are only half way through winter.  :( I realize I'm being negative but it's not my fault, I'm suffering from the winter blues.  I need some vitamin D STAT!!!  After watching the Blind Side this weekend I've come the conclusion that I was really meant to be a southerner and that I need to figure out a way to move down south pronto!  Or at least be able to vacation in a hot spot once a month. (I'm not sure which would be more difficult)  I can't take these winters anymore.  I don't think I could ever take the winter that well.  So to get my mind off of it (AGAIN) it's time to check out beautiful rooms.  :)  (There is always a bright side... you just have to find it).

I have come across Candice Olson's work many times over the last few weeks and thought it would be nice to share her designs with you.  Many rooms are designed for families therefore making them well-used rooms that need to be comfortable, user-friendly and inviting.  I love her use of cream, brown, taupe, grey, blue and white.  This colour scheme is soothing.  Money well spent for her clients!

Enjoy reading and browsing below.  I'm sorry for the delay today.  The day just got away from me.  More to come tomorrow and I think I still owe you a recap from my trip to London, England.

I would really like to move into this bedroom.  The various shades of grey and hit of blue and white are perfect!  It's clean sophisticated and cozy!  :)

This master suite is HUGE!!  I love the mix of built-ins, creamy white walls, blue and cream fabric, chrome and glass.  I would never leave this bedroom if it was mine.  Seriously, it's big enough to entertain, work and sleep.  Where else would you have to be if you had this room?

I remember this bathroom from her show.  There are TVs hidden behind the mirrors!  Very cool!!  It would be convenient when getting ready in the morning as you could catch up on your news and/or favourite gossip shows.  Another hit is the overflow bathtub.  Devine!

This is a stylish family room with space to entertain, do homework, make crafts and play games.

The backsplash is a little too much for me but worth sharing.

I think this is her best kitchen so far because (a) it's white and grey (b) it has great lighting (c) it has a cozy window seat!

Candice likes to use islands as seating areas.  They end up being the focal point of the kitchen which is great because that's usually where guests end up socializing.  If you don't like stainless steel then this kitchen is definitely not for you.  I find the appliances are a bit too noticeable in this kitchen.

Again the backsplash isn't my taste but it does add character to the room. I love the chalkboard to-do list and the very functional island.

I adore the colour scheme in this dining room, the dining chairs, rug and buffet.  Her designs are always so comfortable and classic.

A Cold Grey Winter Day Requires...

A bright room and bright accents to cheer us up.  Tomorrow is Ground Hog Day!  We'll find out just how long winter will last.  For now, let's picture working and hanging out in this bright room.  I can feel the warm breeze coming in through the window as I sip lemonade and relax with a great book.

The next two photos are a great example of how we can bring colourful accents to brighten up our homes in winter.

I had a great weekend at home in Kingston!  I watched the Blind Side with Sandra Bullock on Friday night with my sister, caught up with my aunt and grandma on Saturday morning, ate a lovely lunch with the folks at our favourite pub and then dinner and the Blind Side again on Saturday night.  Can you tell I love that movie!?  Sandra's character is so inspiring.  It's a feel good straight to the heart movie.

It's going to be a busy week.  Yoga tonight, meeting with our real estate agent on Wednesday, dinner with good friends Thursday and then it's Friday again.  I hope to get the glass for my cabinet this week and finally finish it by Saturday!

Have a great week my dear readers!  :)

A quote and aromatic idea to get us through the day...

For those of you who are having a frustrating Friday (like me) this quote from quotable cards is for you.  ''If you're going through hell, keep going..'' Churchill.  We're almost done our work week!!!

Whenever I feel blue, sad, frustrated or mad I browse through pictures of beautiful rooms, art or hotels and places to visit to make me feel better.  Today I found this wonderful arrangement of potted herbs.  I think its a impressive way to display fresh herbs and another great way to save money because I am forever buying fresh herbs and then letting them rot in the fridge.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!  xo

Shopping on Etsy

Browsing Etsy is a great way to pass the time and/or procrastinate.  I recently found these light capturing images on Etsy from Labokoff based in France.  I think they would look great blown-up.  GORGEOUS!

Here is another very talented photographer on Etsy.  Elgarbo's landscape photos are breathtaking.  It amazes me how someone can see the image and then take that perfect photo.  Could you imagine not having photography or art to admire?  It would be an ugy world without it.

If you're a fan of Original Modern then you should check out Art by L. Cellini on Etsy.  She works with with acrylics, oils and watercolors to create beautiful landscapes and seascapes.

I'm heading home to Kingston this weekend to see the family.  It's going to be a very relaxing weekend especially since I get to go by train allowing me to skip the insane Toronto 401 traffic.  :)  Before I sign off, I want to thank all of you who have participated in my first give-away.  I can't wait to announce the winner on Monday.  Remember, there is still time.  The All Modern Furniture Give-away ends Sunday night.

Happy Friday!! :)
